Ms. Simmons-Gill’s previous positions include General Counsel of two public companies, Chief Trademark Counsel of a pharmaceutical company, partner in a Chicago law firm and Senior Counsel-Corporate Identity Counsel of a Fortune 100 company. She was actively involved in the International Trademark Association for more than 30 years, serving as its president from 1995-6. She is also a certified mediator.

As an adjunct professor at the John Marshall Law School, she has taught numerous courses in intellectual property, including International Trademark Law, International Antitrust and Intellectual Property, Trademark and Copyright Planning and Practice, Intellectual Property Licensing at the LL.M level, and Trademark/Copyright Law at the J.D. level. See Courses Taught. Ms. Simmons-Gill also lectured and presented papers frequently. She pioneered a unique law school course in International Trademark Law through the cooperation of INTA and JMLS. From 2014-5, she was the the Director of the JMLS Trademark Clinic.

Ms. Simmons-Gill graduated from Northwestern University School of Law in June 1975 and received an A.B. degree with honors from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1971. She is barred in Illinois state court, the Northern District of Illinois, the Seventh Circuit, and the Court of International Trade. She also belongs to both the national and Illinois chapters of the National Employment Lawyers Association, the Chicago Bar Association, and the Illinois State Bar Association. She served as the president of NELA-Illinois from 2020-2021.
